Candy post
me as a doll
[info]kyuuketsukirui
I've been writing reviews and photographing stuff as I buy it lately, since I noticed I was really unlikely to review anything unless I bought a whole bunch of candy/snacks at one time, which doesn't happen that often. So tonight I got a few more things from the 99 Cent Store and it seemed like I had more than enough for a post. Doing it little by little made it all seem like a lot less work, too, which was nice. :D

A random collection of things, mainly from Japanese shops and the 99 Cent Store )

Candy post: Cost Plus Edition

[info]kyuuketsukirui
So we went to Cost Plus today and ended up buying $20 worth of candy and snacks (not as much as it sounds like, since most of it was pretty pricey), only one of which (Tim Tams!) I'd had before, so I figured I'd do another candy post. :D

It's been ages since I've done a candy post. I've had a couple new things recently, so today when we went to the 99 Cent Store, I deliberately looked for anything else that might be fun to review (they always seem to have an oddball selection), and found several things.

Mostly US stuff, but one Japanese one! )

I have a whole drawer full of candy here piling up! Today I got yet another package from [info]kakeochi_umai, so I'm taking that as a sign to finally write it all up. Most of this stuff is Japanese, those there are a few American candies in there, too.

KitKat, Hi-Chew, 3 Musketeers, Reese's, and more )

So. Now we have a ton of stuff here, and I'm giving some away! I'm just going to give a few pieces to anyone who asks (everything is individually wrapped), so I can take quite a few requests. Here's what's on offer:

Soysauce KitKats
Muscat KitKats
Ume Hi-Chew
Strawberry cheesecake Hi-Chew
Aloe yogurt Hi-Chew
Brown sugar/umeboshi hard candy
Dark chocolate/cherry 3 Musketeers

Comment or email me at megchan@gmail.com and let me know which you'd like (feel free to ask for some of each).

So the other day when we went to the 99 Cent Store, they had a bunch of limited edition stuff, including some I had tried and loved, such as the Elvis Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (I didn't buy the one I saw only because I'm pretty sure it's been over a year since they stopped making those and I hate the crumbly way Reese's gets when they're old) and cherry M&Ms. But there were also two I'd never heard of, Twix Java and 3 Musketeers S'mores Brownie Bar (which I misremembered as being rocky road when I posted about it the other day).

On to the reviews! )

When I was editing the photos from our walk, I finally decided to edit all the candy photos I had sitting around, too. This is mainly stuff from Germany and Australia, with one lone Japanese one we got recently at Mitsuwa.

Just a short one, but it includes a VIDEO. Because bacon mints deserve a video. Anyway, these are all Canadian candies from [info]glossing, except two of the three are not actually from Canada (Seattle is apparently to blame for the bacon mints).

Floral gum, banana chocolates, and BACON MINTS, oh my. )

Now I have all these bacon mints left! If any of you are brave enough to try them, just email me at megchan@gmail.com and I'll send you a few. I'm going to have to limit this offer to folks in the US, though, as I'm not sure how customs would feel about baggies of strange white pills.

So here's pics and reviews of the stuff [info]kakeochi_umai sent us, as well as some other stuff I had around the house. I think I sized my pictures smaller than usual this time, oops.

A bunch of wacky Japanese KitKats and some other stuff. )

I am also doing some giveaways along with the usual reviews, as 1. I am trying not to eat as much candy these days, and 2. some of it was not to my tastes. If you are interested in the Tropical Fruit Aero and/or the Kinako KitKat, just email me at megchan@gmail.com with your address and I will send you a couple pieces (specify which you want, or if you want both, that's fine, too). I also have a limited number of Salt & Caramel KitKats I will be giving away (I liked those quite a bit, but I don't think I want the whole bag of them around), so if you want one of the other two and are also interested these, lemme know and I'll add one in. Last but not least, although I love them to death, there's the whole trying not to eat as much candy thing, so I am giving away one Cherry Mash. I am willing to ship outside of the US, since they're small and shipping won't be that much, except for the Cherry Mash, which is heavier, so US only for that. First come, first served.

So we got a fairly big box of candy from [info]kakeochi_umai yesterday (thank you!) and omg, this is like, the best selection ever. Everything is fruity, even the chocolate stuff. I love fruit candy so, so much. I like non-chocolate fruit candy best, but chocolate with fruit flavor is a close second.

Korean candy!
blast of happy in my ass
[info]kyuuketsukirui
Wow, there was so much awesome candy in my package from [info]tardis80. I am almost thinking of braving Koreatown to see if I can find any of it here. Or maybe I'll google and see if I can find some Korean markets that are not actually in Koreatown. (It is in Mid-Wilshire, which is pretty much the worst location ever, traffic-wise, and I'm not sure even delicious candy can lure me there.)

Details on the deliciousness behind the cut!! )

In other news, I had to go over to my mom's yet again today. *sigh* I think this is the last of it... They got the new version of WordPerfect today that I ordered for them last Friday, and Tom installed it and forgot that I'd told them it needed an update patch from the website. So my mom called me saying it wouldn't work. I emailed her the link to the update patch on the website and told her to have Tom download it and run it. She calls me back a bit later and says it's still not letting them copy and paste anything and can I please come over and fix it. So I did.

Turns out the problem? Is that Tom was still clicking on the shortcut for the ancient version of WordPerfect, not the new one. *headdesk* So I deleted all the shortcuts to the old version (I could not for the life of me find where in Vista to uninstall programs, and they have a 500 GB hard drive, of which they are not going to use even a tiny fraction of, so no hurry to get it off, so long as they can't access it) and put a shortcut in the toolbar for the new one and now they are good to go. Of course the new WordPerfect automatically opens the window to a new directory instead of the old My Files it used before, so I also had to move all their files from My Files to this new directory... (You can supposedly change the default directory, but it was not working for me, so whatever. I moved them.)

But man, I would really like to go over there at some time and clean things up. Vista makes things even messier and weirder than XP out of the box and while it doesn't bother them because they use just a few specific things that they know exactly where they are, it is a pain trying to find stuff when they want me to fix things.

Anyway, so yeah. Computer tip: if you install a new program because the old version wasn't working, it helps to actually USE THAT NEW PROGRAM or you will find you have the same problems as before... :p

Other than that, I have actually been productive, whoo! Got another Reborn! doujinshi translated. Might try to do a few pages of the Samurai Troopers manga or the BL novel I have on my to-do list, too.

Also look for a music post later tonight or tomorrow! I kind of want to do a Utada Hikaru favorites as I've been listening to her all afternoon. But if nothing else I'll do another of the alphabet posts. Any suggestions on what letter I should do next? Check the tag for which letters have already been done.

More Japanese KitKats

[info]kyuuketsukirui
A couple weeks ago we got a package of Japanese KitKats from [info]kakeochi_umai. I am always amazed at how many new flavors of KitKat Japan can keep pumping out. Seriously, there seem to be several new ones every month.

6 new KitKats! )

And sorry, but my server seems to be having problems at the moment (it stopped responding a few minutes after I uploaded the photos), so if you can't see the pics, that's why. Hopefully it will be back up, too. Of course this happens right when I make photo and music posts...

Mo's Bacon Bar review
blast of happy in my ass
[info]kyuuketsukirui
Bruce and I have been hearing a lot about Mo's Bacon Bar by Vosges, but at $8 a bar, it's not something we probably ever would have bought, even if Bruce wasn't out of work. However, thanks to the wonderful [info]anthimaeria, we now have one in our possession!

You know you're curious. )

Now I really want to try out these bacon chocolate chip cookies!

KitKats!

[info]kyuuketsukirui
Oh man, these were all so good! The last few KitKats I've had have been unimpressive. I wasn't thrilled with the caramel-flavored (not even actual caramel, just flavor!), the chestnut (though Bruce loves those), or the vanilla bean, but these, mmm! Even the flavors I was suspicious of were good!

Earlier this week, I got a package from [info]_bettina_ with delicious treats from Austria!

There were two packets of Baumstämme, which I previously reviewed here. They were a bit crushed (thanks, USPS!), but as delicious as before, and were the first to go.

Candy review: 4 Japanese KitKats
me as a doll
[info]kyuuketsukirui
Here's something for all you folks who are utterly sick to death of Harry Potter. :p I just got a package stuffed full of KitKats today (thank you, Julie!!): 8 peach (which I already reviewed previously), 4 each of kiwi fruit, orange, and melon, and 3 pineapple. Oh, how I wish there were more pineapple! So good! Hey, Julie, when you go back to visit your folks, maybe you can send me some of those pineapple lumps. This made me remember how much I loved them.
